Hyundai Tucson 4th Gen (2022-2026): Hybrid, Plug-In, N Line, XRT

The fourth-generation Hyundai Tucson arrived for the 2022 model year and was sold through the 2026 model year. Hyundai has since revealed an all-new, fifth-generation 2027 Tucson that is due at US dealers in 2027. If you drive a 2022 to 2026 Tucson, this guide covers the versions and how to tell them apart.

Gas, hybrid and plug-in hybrid

  • Gas: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder rated at 187 hp with an eight-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard and AWD is available.
  • Hybrid: a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor and a six-speed automatic. It was rated at 226 hp at launch. Cars.com lists 231 hp and standard AWD for the 2026 model.
  • Plug-in hybrid: the same basic layout with a 13.8 kWh battery and standard AWD. At launch it was rated at 261 hp with 33 miles of electric range. Cars.com lists 268 hp for 2026, in SEL and Limited trims.

N Line

The N Line is the sport-styled Tucson. Early N Line models used the 2.5-liter gas engine. For 2024, Hyundai moved the N Line to the hybrid powertrain, rated at 226 hp at the time, with standard AWD.

XRT

The XRT arrived for 2022 as a gas-only trim based on the SEL with the Convenience package. It added rugged styling with no mechanical changes: black exterior accents, notched front and rear fascias, side cladding and side steps, roof cross bars and exclusive 19-inch black wheels. The 2025 refresh gave it bridge-style roof rails, and for 2026 it gained Terrain Mode settings for mud, snow and sand.

The 2025 refresh

Hyundai refreshed the Tucson for 2025 without mechanical changes. Outside, it got a boxier grille, new front and rear bumpers and new wheel designs. The daytime running lights stay integrated into the grille, but there are fewer, larger segments.

The cabin changed more. An available 12.3-inch driver display and 12.3-inch touchscreen share one curved panel, the center stack gained knobs and switches for audio and some climate functions, and upper trims moved the gear selector to a small stalk on the steering column, opening up console space. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto became standard on every trim. Before the refresh, touchscreens measured 8 or 10.25 inches.

2026 changes

For 2026, Hyundai added an entry-level Blue SE hybrid and raised the gas model's tow rating to 2,750 lb, according to Cars.com. The 2026 gas lineup ran SE, SEL, XRT, SEL Premium and Limited.

Quick identification tips

  • Gear selector on the steering column, or two 12.3-inch screens under one curved panel: a 2025 or 2026 model.
  • Front end: 2025 and 2026 models have a boxier grille and new bumpers.
  • N Line with the 2.5-liter gas engine: built before the 2024 model year.
  • Blue SE trim: a 2026 model.
  • XRT with bridge-style roof rails: a 2025 or 2026 model. The 2022 XRT launched with roof cross bars instead.

Accessory fit

The 2025 refresh changed the dash, console and bumpers, so screen protectors, console organizers and some exterior parts made for 2022 to 2024 models may not fit a 2025 or 2026 Tucson. The 2027 Tucson is an all-new design, so fourth-generation parts should not be assumed to carry over. Always confirm model year, powertrain and trim.
